41 International are holding their AGM Virtually this Saturday, 29th May Here’s the details from National IRO Andy Ventress, so that as many of you as want to can join in – not least because David Leach, our former National Treasurer, is standing for election as the Treasurer of 41 International. Just remember that all the times quoted are CET so are an hour ahead of the UK and Ireland.

MEMBERS’ SURVEYS – #1 Thank you to all those who completed the National Secretary’s AGM Questionnaire and apologies to those for whom the link proved faulty. Here’s the link again below – if it doesn’t work, it will work if you simply type it in to your browser window:- https://41clubconnects.co.uk/41-club-virtual-agm-2021-feedback/You have until 1st June to complete this for National Secretary, Bernard.

MEMBERS’ SURVEYS – #2 On the subject of Questionnaires, we would also like it if you would spend a few minutes on the following survey to assist us in serving you better. Here’s an introduction to it by Peter McBride, National Councillor Region 24. This Survey is to ascertain what you, our members, think we should be doing, if anything, regarding your welfare.  Any approach to supporting our members welfare across the Association needs to reflect what members want. Hence this survey to ask you what you think is important. Do you think our members’ welfare is important?  If so, how might we as an Association best support Clubs and members?  Please spend a few minutes answering the following questions
to help the Association help you better. https://41clubconnects.co.uk/41-Club-Welfare-Survey-2021/
The deadline for your response is Sunday 20th June – thank you in anticipation. As the lockdown restrictions of the past 12 months are relaxed and Clubs cautiously plan face-to-face meetings once again, it’s important to be aware that not everyone may be comfortable with whatever the ‘new normal’ will be. Members’ own situations and welfare requirements may vary significantly – we recognise that one size definitely does not fit all.

Last Week was Dementia Action Week I drew your attention to this last week. The following is a special report on what 41 Club is doing with regard to Dementia UK, prepared by Nigel Baxendale – Thank you Nigel.  Dementia Action Week:
& The President’s Charity
Last week, was ‘Dementia Action Week’. The Alzheimer Society launched its Dementia Action Week with Sir Tony Robinson outside the Houses of Parliament on Monday, with a giant prescription urging the Prime Minister to provide high quality, easily accessible and consistent social care to sufferers and their families.

National President Peter Good selected Dementia UK as his charity for his term of office, and has a Virgin Money fundraising page. So far, donations have reached 56% of his £30,000 fundraising target. Most of us have experienced the pain of ‘losing’ a loved one to dementia. Peter himself has the charity very close to his heart, as his mother was a sufferer. Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, that is, conditions affecting the brain. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia, but the five most common are: Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia. Some people may have a combination of different types of dementia and these are commonly called mixed dementia. The brain is made up of nerve cells (neurones) that communicate with each other by sending messages. Dementia damages the nerve cells in the brain so messages can’t be sent from and to the brain effectively, which prevents the body from functioning normally. Regardless of which type of dementia is diagnosed and what part of the brain is affected, each person will experience dementia in their own unique way. Dementia is a global concern but it is most often seen in wealthier countries, where people are likely to live into very old age. The Alzheimer’s Society (2014) reports there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. Of these, approximately, 42,000 are people with young onset dementia, which affects people under the age of 65. As a person’s age increases, so does the risk of them developing dementia. It is estimated that the number of people living with dementia in the UK by 2025 will rise to over one million. Rates of diagnosis are improving but many people with dementia are thought to still be undiagnosed. Families facing dementia are at the centre of everything that Dementia UK does. As their numbers grow and their needs evolve, the charity constantly challenge themselves to adapt and grow alongside them. They are working towards a day when every family facing dementia has the life-changing support of a specialist Admiral Nurse. By supporting President Peter’s fundraising efforts, you will be helping Dementia UK in delivering this vital support to a simply amazing charity. In the signature of this email you should see a link to President Peter’s Virgin Money Giving Appeal for Dementia UK, which enables you to support the charity in a tax efficient way.

FINALLY… If you didn’t receive your 41 Club Bandana through the post recently it is likely to mean that your address is wrong in our Club Administration System – or that you aren’t listed at all.
Unfortunately Marchesi House has been swamped with copies of the Spring Magazine and the bandanas which have been returned simply because members addresses haven’t been updated.
With CAS2 its very simple to check your details yourself – every member can check their own details – here is how.

  1. Simply go to: https://cas.41club.org/members
  2. Enter your email address. If your email address is in CAS it will send you a secure log-in to that email address.
  3. When you receive your log-in, click on it and view your details – and amend if necessary. If you do make amendments don’t forget to Save the amendments.
  4. Log-off – job done.

Any queries or problems remember that we are here to help you.  Keep safe.
