41 Clun Connects – the latest

A reminder about this week’s 41 Club Connects Zoom Meeting, and the weeks ahead…   This Thursday at 7:30pm….we are in conversation with Christo Brand, Nelson Mandela’s former prison warder.   This will be coming to you all the way from Cape Town, South Africa.   “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite” – Nelson Mandela   Christo is a personification of this. We believe it is a talk you will never forget!   The Zoom Log-In Details are: https://zoom.us/j/95916181163

Looking beyond the virtual AGM…..   On Thursday 29th April, we will be the Guests of the RNLI at a Lifeboat Station on the Norfolk Coast   On Thursday 6th May, in the run-up to VE-Day we are planning a very special event with Fleet 41 Club and a Royal Navy veteran of WW2, Norman Bartlet.   Norman joined the Royal Navy at 16 years of age in 1942. He served in the Atlantic, Baltic and Med before ending up in the Pacific as an anti-aircraft gunner combatting Kamikazes, witnessing the surrender in Tokyo Bay and the release of British POWs. He married his childhood dancing partner sweetheart Betty during the war. He still plays golf on a regular basis. Last year through the Royal British Legion, he was selected by the BBC to speak at the VJ celebrations from the National Arboretum and at the Festival of Remembrance, Albert Hall.   As you can see this will be another very special Zoom Event and one we hope you will all join in on.
Now you are hopefully aware that the National AGM is going to be virtual this year, but we want to look ahead to a shindig when we can hopefully all come together again, face-to-face – and that will be The 41 Club Big Weekend (Friday 1st October to Sunday 3rd October in Nottingham)   President Peter is really excited about The 41 Club Big Weekend in October being put together by his PLC in compliance with all the Covid guidelines! Fingers crossed that this fabulous event can indeed take place!   Here’s Peter’s PLC Chairman, Marcus Jones, to tell you about it:-

There is a light at the end of tunnel and with the support of our membership we can now start the process to reopen our plans for the year head which includes the belated celebration of the original 75th Year previously planned events along with a weekend that can only be described as “The 41 Club Big Weekend”.   We aim to bring together all aspects of the membership over this amazing weekend, fun, fellowship, entertainment, and the business side of things with an SGM, whilst ensuring it is an inclusive event for all.
We want to create an event that celebrates the amazing efforts by so many over the past
75 YEARS and in special recognition of the past year in dealing with Covid19 and the supportive work our members have shown in their communities.
The dates are set aside are Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd October 2021 at the amazing venue of DeVere Orchard Hotel & Conference Centre Nottingham and the booking site will open once we have the government updates.
It is intended to hold a Special General Meeting of 41 Club
on the morning of Saturday 2nd October.
